John Cena recently made it clear he really wanted to have a match against AJ Styles as part of his retirement tour and threw down a challenge. Interestingly enough, Styles has now accepted his challenge.

It all started when John Cena asked fans if they wanted to see him face off against AJ Styles. Cena took to Twitter and made it clear that he doesn’t choose his opponents but always listens to the fans, even during tough times. He then called out both AJ Styles and Triple H, asking if they’re paying attention, and added the hashtag #CenaVsStyles.

“I do not choose my opponents, but I (even through tough times) ALWAYS listen to the fans. @AJStylesOrg are you listening? Better yet @TripleH ….. are YOU listening??? #CenaVsStyles”

In response to John Cena’s challenge, AJ Styles took to Twitter and made it clear he heard the fans demanding the match and accepted the challenge, saying, “I hear them loud and clear. Let’s do it, I’m ready!”

Cena and Styles have faced each other four times in singles matches, with the series tied 2–2. Styles beat Cena at Money in the Bank 2016 and SummerSlam 2016, while Cena won at Royal Rumble 2017 to claim his 16th WWE Championship and again on SmackDown in February 2018.

While WWE hasn’t announced a date or location yet, the public challenge and response make it clear that the match is coming soon. With Crown Jewel just a few weeks away, fans are wondering if that event will be where the bout finally happens.
