WWE fans feel like they know AJ Lee at this point, because she’s so open about her personal struggles. Her book, “Crazy Is My Superpower,” told that whole story. It also led many fans to unload their own stories onto the former Divas Champion.
AJ Lee addressed the “therapy” chants she received during her WWE Raw return in September. The appearance marked her first time in a WWE ring in ten years, and she spoke on the September 8 episode of WWE RAW, where she told the audience she had been to therapy. Fans chanted the word back to her during the segment.
While speaking on What’s Your Story with Stephanie McMahon, AJ Lee said she did not expect the reaction to that unique chant. It “stunned” her, but being the true professional, she went with it.
“That was a genuine reaction of like being stunned. I heard one person start to chant it, and then a few people around him started chanting ‘therapy’. And I thought it was so funny.”
“I heard it, and I was like I have to respond to this. Three guys were chanting therapy, and then everyone started to do it, and my mind exploded.”
AJ Lee also discussed how the moment led fans to approach her about their own experiences with therapy. She has heard a lot of very private stories since then, and she’s okay with giving fans that holding space.
“I think if you have a judgmental idea of what you think wrestling crowds could be, you don’t think that they’re in touch with their emotions or open-minded and empathetic like that.”
“It was just like my worlds came together, and now I did a signing, and people had ‘Therapy is cool’ merch, they made themselves.”
“And, I’ve had so many people from that moment say they decided to get therapy themselves because of that segment. It’s like what did we do, you guys?”
“This is the coolest thing in the world to combine these two things that mean everything to me. But I hope those fans know that they are the reason I came back.”
Only time will tell what AJ Lee does next in her WWE journey. She very well may be on her way to a Women’s IC Title match, but she will have to track Becky Lynch down to get that match first.
AJ Lee is scheduled to compete at WWE Survivor Series WarGames in the women’s match on November 29. This year the Women’s WarGames match will feature Rhea Ripley, IYO SKY, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, and AJ Lee taking on Becky Lynch, Nia Jax, Lash Legend, and the Kabuki Warriors, Asuka and Kairi Sane.
