AJ Francis isn’t shy about his love for professional wrestling—and he’s also not pretending it’s anything other than what it is.

During a new interview with WhatCulture Wrestling on YouTube, the former WWE star and current TNA talent made it clear that wrestling might not be a “real job” in the traditional sense, but that’s what makes it so fulfilling for him.

Francis reflected on how surreal it feels to support himself through something he grew up watching and always dreamed about doing. Even while playing in the NFL, he said pro wrestling was always the endgame.

“Wrestling is my life. I love wrestling. I’ve loved wrestling since before I could walk, before I could talk. I played in the NFL, yeah—but I knew, even when I was in the NFL, that when I was done, I was going to be a wrestler.”

What sets Francis apart is how grateful he is to be living his dream, even if it doesn’t look like work to most people. He said his family members hold down traditional jobs, and that gives him even more appreciation for his path.

“So it’s great to be able to live out all my dreams and still be living them. Bro, this isn’t work. My dad is a [guidance counselor and a night school principal. My sister teaches middle school. Those are real jobs. This ain’t no real job. You know what I’m saying? This is great. The fact that I can support myself and pay my bills fake fighting people as a pretend bad guy—it’s amazing.”

Francis isn’t mocking the business—he’s embracing its absurdity and loving every second of it. While others may see wrestling as a strange or unserious career, for him it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong passion.

Say what you will about AJ Francis, but one thing’s for sure: the man knows exactly who he is and why he’s here—and he’s not taking a second of it for granted.
