MJF and Alicia Atout recently got married, and while the celebration was a happy moment for the couple, the aftermath has reportedly caused tension behind the scenes in AEW.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez revealed that the now-viral wedding photos—some showing MJF posing with fellow AEW star Hangman Page—were never meant to be shared by anyone in the company.

According to Alvarez, it was fans who dug up the images from Facebook family albums and began reposting them across social media. While AEW talent later reshared the photos, the original leak wasn’t their doing. Dave Meltzer noted that the situation didn’t sit well with AEW management.

“I know that they’re not particularly happy it happened,” Meltzer said. “It’s not the end of the world. I mean, everyone knows and this and that. But it’s still, especially for people who have kind of the mentality that he [MJF] would have, and I would presume Page would have, but I know he would have, in the sense of he wouldn’t want that.”

The company’s concern wasn’t about the wedding itself, but about breaking kayfabe—especially since MJF has built his brand around being a throwback heel who keeps the illusion alive both on and off camera. Meltzer mentioned how MJF works tirelessly to maintain that illusion.

“He’s… look, he’s trying to be a heel from the 70s and 80s in 2025. And it’s not the easiest thing to do, and he works very hard at being that kind of a heel that people genuinely hate. And trying to make… and there’s nothing wrong with trying to create the illusion that these feuds are real. I mean, we know they’re not, but you do want to create the illusion. And I don’t think you want to break the illusion.”

While many fans saw the photos as a wholesome moment, AEW reportedly viewed it as a potential disruption to ongoing storylines. MJF, who takes his onscreen persona seriously, is said to have been particularly unhappy about the situation.
