Leila Grey has confirmed that she tore her ACL during her TBS Championship match against Mercedes Moné on the December 6 episode of AEW Collision.
Grey took to Twitter and opened up about the injury and revealed that while the injury sidelined her from wrestling, she still managed to compete in a major fitness event and win, injury and all.
“FIRST PLACE BABY! I just won, went Pro, and became the new WBFF Pro Fitness Diva!!….. with a freakin’ torn ACL!”
Grey explained that the injury couldn’t have come at a worse time. She had been preparing for her debut WBFF show for a full year, and her AEW Collision match against Moné was a huge opportunity. But she refused to give up on either.
“This couldn’t have happened at a worse time. Not only did it affect my championship match, a MAJOR opportunity for me, but it happened one week out from my debut WBFF show that I had invested so much of my life into the past year.”
While people expected her to drop out of the competition, she decided to power through it and got the job done while wearing a knee brace.
“People expected me to drop out, but honey, there’s no quit in me. I’m a boss ass baddie, and I always get the job done. Strapped up, blinged out my knee brace and it was go time!”
Grey ended her tweet with a thank you to her supporters and a reminder that this is only the beginning of her fitness career.
“This is just the beginning in my fitness career. Many more wins to come!”
Now set for surgery, Grey will be sidelined from the ring for the foreseeable future—but she’s already shown she’s not slowing down in any other area. Grey may be injured, but she’s proving there’s no quit in her. With a torn ACL and a new Pro Fitness title in hand, Grey is turning a setback into the start of a brand-new chapter.
