Katsuyori Shibata is officially off the AEW roster—for now—after suffering injuries during his match against Daniel Garcia at AEW All Out Tailgate Brawl.

In a new video posted to AEW’s social media, Tony Khan revealed that Shibata is not currently cleared for in-ring action following a brutal piledriver and curb stomp delivered by Garcia during their recent showdown. Garcia won the match, but the aftermath has led to serious consequences for Shibata’s future.

Khan confirmed that AEW’s medical team has stepped in and suspended Shibata until he can pass the necessary health exams to return.

“Katsuyori Shibata—that piledriver, that curb stomp that Garcia used on Shibata. The AEW doctors have not cleared Katsuyori Shibata, so I’m going to have to medically suspend Shibata until he can pass these exams. It does make some changes.”

The news comes as a disappointment for fans, especially given Shibata’s history of fighting through adversity. But AEW is standing firm in prioritizing his health and long-term safety. His removal from action may shake up future plans, but there’s no mistaking the company’s commitment to protecting its talent.

While fans may miss his presence in the ring, AEW’s decision shows they’re playing the long game—making sure Shibata is truly ready before returning to competition.
