AEW could be slimming down its championship landscape soon, with backstage discussions pointing toward a title unification on the horizon.

With Kenny Omega winning the AEW International Championship at Revolution, speculation has ramped up about AEW merging titles, specifically Kazuchika Okada’s AEW Continental Championship with the International Title.

According to Fightful Select, sources within AEW have talked about this possibility for months, with some even considering it a done deal creatively.

“The combination has been pitched dating back a number of months. To the point that many in the company had considered them firm creative plans,” the report stated.

While it remains unclear how AEW plans to execute the potential merger—whether it’s a full unification, a rebrand, or a scenario where both belts are carried together—consolidating championships seems to be a clear direction.

AEW has already retired the FTW Championship in September 2024, signaling an effort to streamline its title scene. However, whether Okada vs. Omega is actually part of the plan remains unknown.
