The AEW Revolution 2025 pay-per-view was headlined by Jon Moxley defending his AEW World Title against Adam Copeland. While many fans felt the match could have been much better than it was, it appears that AEW originally planned for the main event to be much more chaotic.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez revealed that AEW had a different plan for the main event between Jon Moxley and Adam Copeland at the Revolution pay-per-view.

The original idea included more wrestlers and maybe some surprise returns, but it was axed at the last minute. Alvarez noted that it was not clear who was supposed to be involved or what they were going to do, but the plan never happened.

“I do know this, okay? I don’t know all the details, but there was an idea for the main event that involved way more people than actually ended up being out there, including some returns. At the last minute, it just got axed. I don’t know who it was or what they were going to do, but there was a second plan that didn’t take place. Whatever it was, it involved people who had been there before or had been there in the past.”

Alvarez stated that after the match, some fans thought there was a last-minute change when Copeland placed his hand on Moxley’s chest before being pulled away. People assumed this meant Copeland was supposed to win but didn’t. However, Alvarez simply said that wasn’t true.

Regardless of any last-minute changes, Alvarez stated that Jon Moxley was always set to retain the title and move on to face Swerve Strickland at the next pay-per-view.

“I think what happened was there were changes to the main event, and people heard about that. Then they saw what almost happened with the hand on the chest, and then he got yanked off. They came to this conclusion that he wouldn’t put the guy over. That’s not what happened.

I mean, I’m 99% sure that, no matter what was planned before or after, Moxley was always retaining, and he was always going on to face Swerve at the next pay-per-view.”

Jon Moxley ultimately retained his title after Christian Cage cashed in his guaranteed contract but ended up passing out after Moxley applied the bulldog choke. It was also reported that Cage’s cash in was done simply so that the angle would finally get finished.
