The fallout from Marina Shafir’s disturbing story about being assaulted by a former male coworker in a gym continues—and now, it seems even people within AEW were completely in the dark.
According to a new update from Fightful Select, numerous AEW sources were contacted following the release of Shafir’s story on Rulebreakers with Saraya. Shockingly, none of them had heard a single thing about the incident before the interview dropped.
“This was the first everyone we asked had heard of it, but they were all very curious as to who it was.”
That alone raises more questions, considering Shafir mentioned the attack happened the same day as her ROH Women’s Title match against Athena—a live show day with plenty of AEW talent present. Yet, the person who allegedly shoved and challenged her still hasn’t been identified by name, and those within the company are either unaware or playing it close to the chest.
During her interview, Shafir claimed she was blindsided at the gym by someone she recognized from her MMA days. After initially brushing off an awkward treadmill moment, she said things escalated when the man violently shoved her from behind, cutting her gums and taunting her.
“All of a sudden I get [expletive] shoved from behind… My water bottle hits the wall, cuts me in the gums. Water is just everywhere. I just pause for a second. I turn around and he’s just standing over me going like, ‘Come on, come on, I know you [expletive] want some.’”
Shafir said she responded using her MMA instincts, faking a strike, locking him in a front face lock, and throwing him across the room. She later messaged her husband, AEW’s Roderick Strong, who was stunned.
“Are you [expletive] serious? He’s so [expletive] lucky I wasn’t there.”
Ricky Starks reportedly arrived moments after the confrontation and, seeing the aftermath, joked: “Oh [expletive], you’re going to be fired.”
Despite the situation, AEW talent sources now say they have no clue who the alleged assailant was—or they’re simply not naming names.
Whether the man is someone currently employed, formerly affiliated, or just part of Shafir’s past remains unclear. What is clear is that the AEW locker room is still asking questions—and this story may not be over yet.
Are you surprised no one in AEW seems to know who this guy is? or do you think they are just keeping a tight lip? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
