The next battle between AEW and WWE is officially locked in, and it’s all going down on the last weekend of May.
AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view is set for Sunday, May 25, live from the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. This will be the first time the event takes place outside of Las Vegas—excluding the pandemic-era Jacksonville shows in 2020 and 2021. But AEW won’t be the only company putting on a show that night.
According to earlier reports, WWE is planning its next Saturday Night’s Main Event special on NBC for May 24, with NXT’s Battleground PLE scheduled for May 25—the same night as AEW’s big event.
This means Double or Nothing will go head-to-head with NXT Battleground, setting up yet another direct showdown between AEW and WWE. AEW typically runs pay-per-views on Sundays outside of football season, while shifting to Saturdays when the NFL is in full swing. Now, with WWE stacking the weekend with shows, both companies will be fighting for attention.
Reports have suggested AEW has been trying to keep event dates under wraps after WWE ran a house show in the same city on the same night as Worlds End last December. With both sides playing chess when it comes to scheduling, this latest clash might just be another move in a bigger game.
