AEW just confirmed what fans feared—Adam Copeland is out indefinitely after suffering a brutal beatdown at the hands of FTR during AEW Dynasty.
During the April 10 episode of Dynamite, commentator Excalibur delivered the official update, revealing that Copeland, aka Cope, was stretchered out of the arena following the vicious post-match assault. The WWE Hall of Famer was attacked after Rated FTR failed to capture the AEW World Trios Titles from the Death Riders.
FTR didn’t just turn on their longtime ally—they annihilated him. Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler hit Copeland with “the shatter machine, a spike piledriver, and a con-chair-to”, leaving him motionless in the ring as the stunned Philadelphia crowd watched in silence. The savage sequence was AEW’s way of writing Cope off TV, and now it’s official—he’s not coming back anytime soon.
“I don’t expect him back until July,” said Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. “So he will miss the next pay-per-view. I think he’ll be out for a while.”
Tony Schiavone didn’t hide his feelings about the betrayal either. The longtime AEW voice was clearly disgusted with FTR’s turn, calling their actions “totally unnecessary and unforgivable.”
With Copeland now on the shelf, the question becomes what’s next for FTR. Their heel turn has reset the board—but at what cost?
