The internet had plenty to say after Jon Moxley took a vicious bump onto a spike-covered bat during his street fight with Adam Copeland on the March 19, 2025 edition of AEW Dynamite. Critics slammed the spot as reckless and unnecessary, but Copeland is firing back—making it clear he’s not losing any sleep over the outrage.
Speaking with ITRWrestling.com, Adam Copeland shut down the online complaints, saying the live crowd is all that matters to him. “I don’t really care about the reaction, besides the live reaction. That to me is the reaction that matters and they were into it live,” he said.
Copeland went deeper, acknowledging that while the criticism exists, it doesn’t influence how he approaches his work. “I get it, I do. Because I understand that it can be diminishing returns and all of those things. You also have to know your audience and you also have to understand that times have changed, for good, bad, however you want to look at it,” he explained.
He added that wrestling naturally evolves just like everything else in life. “I like to think I’ve always been a proponent of understanding that things do change; it’s going to be more athletic now, it’s going to be more violent now, and things just naturally tend to get ‘more’ as time goes on,” Adam said. “I remember dial up and now there’s AI, things change, that’s just the nature of life.”
At the end of the day, Copeland’s view is simple: if the live audience is invested, then the mission was accomplished. “I just know they’re into it live, that’s my job, and that’s how I gauge things,” he said.
With Copeland standing firm on his approach to hardcore wrestling, it looks like fans who didn’t like the spot won’t be getting an apology anytime soon.
