Adam Copeland’s future in AEW is officially uncertain.
During the September 24, 2025 episode of AEW Dynamite, a pre-taped backstage segment aired featuring Copeland and Christian Cage. The clip appeared to be filmed following their emotionally-charged tag team match against FTR at AEW All Out in Toronto. While the match was a major reunion moment for the legendary duo, the aftermath has shifted the tone dramatically.
In the segment, Copeland opened up about the toll everything has taken—not just on himself but on his family. Visibly struggling, he made it clear that he needs to step away and added that he doesn’t know if he’ll ever be back.
The tag match itself was a major deal. Copeland and Christian hadn’t teamed in over a decade, and their victory against FTR was a nostalgic highlight for longtime fans. However, the brutal post-match attack—where Beth Phoenix was double tombstoned by FTR while Copeland was handcuffed to the ropes—may have been the final straw that led to his breakdown.
Now, with Copeland expressing doubt about returning, AEW is left with a major question mark hanging over one of its most iconic names.
