The May 28 episode of AEW Dynamite saw Kyle Fletcher challenge Adam Cole for the TNT Championship but it almost ended in disaster after Fletcher hit a botched apron power bomb on Cole and now Cole’s condition has been revealed.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez gave an update on Adam Cole’s condition following a botched apron powerbomb by Kyle Fletcher on AEW Dynamite.

After the scary-looking spot, Alvarez started reaching out to people, asking if Cole was okay. He was told repeatedly that Cole was fine, which seemed hard to believe given how brutal the bump looked in real time.

Upon further review, a slow-motion clip showed that Cole’s head never actually hit the apron, even though in normal speed it sounded and looked like it did. The loud impact came from Cole’s elbow hitting the edge of the ring, not his head. So while Cole avoided a potential concussion or serious head injury, his elbow got hurt.

“I start texting, ‘Is Adam Cole alright?’ and I get back, ‘Yes! Yes! Yes!’ Everyone says he’s fine. So I start asking, like, how? Then someone posts a super slow-mo clip, and in the slow motion, his head doesn’t hit the apron. I watch it, and then I watch the normal speed version. I’m like, how are these the same thing? In real time, you hear the thwack and it looks brutal, but in the slow-mo, he didn’t get hit.

Then people start getting back to me. Turns out, the slow-mo was right—his head never hit the apron. But what did happen is his elbow hit it. So when you watch the full-speed version with sound, it creates an illusion. That sound was actually his arm and elbow hitting the apron. The good news is his head is okay. The bad news is his elbow isn’t great.”

Alvarez pointed out that Kyle Fletcher appeared to be too far from the apron when delivering the move. That distance likely saved Cole’s head from hitting the edge but caused his arm to take the full impact instead.

Alvarez revealed that many people backstage were furious with Fletcher, especially given Cole’s known history of head injuries and concussions. Some felt the move was reckless and unnecessary, considering the risks involved.

“But seriously, what in God’s name was Kyle Fletcher thinking? The only reason Cole’s head didn’t hit the apron is because Kyle was too far from the ring. He wasn’t trying to slam his elbow, he was going for an apron powerbomb. Thank God he wasn’t even an inch closer, because Adam Cole would be dead.

I’m sure we’re going to hear about this all afternoon. There were a lot of people furious with Kyle Fletcher. Look, whatever move you want to do is fine if both guys agree, but Adam Cole has a history of head injuries and concussions. There have been times he’s missed TV because of them, and that never even came out publicly. So yeah, a lot of people backstage were not happy with Kyle Fletcher. They’re all asking—what was this dude thinking?”

While fans are glad to hear Adam Cole isn’t seriously injured, he was inches away from certain death and we hope such spots never happen again, especially knowing Cole’s history with concussions.
