Abyss has been working behind the scenes in WWE for several years, and he has now explained why he chose to join the company in the first place.
While speaking on the Getting Over podcast, Abyss revealed that when WWE offered him a job as a producer, it was an easy choice. He knew his wrestling career was over, so instead of continuing to wrestle, he decided to work behind the scenes. He said it changed his life.
Even though he’s not in the ring anymore, he now helps the wrestlers and the whole roster reach their goals, which makes him just as happy as performing in matches did.
“When the opportunity came, it was a pretty easy decision for me. You know, it was life-changing in the fact that I wasn’t going to compete in the ring anymore. But now I’m competing behind the scenes, you know, and helping the younger talent and just the whole roster in general achieve their goals, achieve the company’s goals, and that’s just as rewarding to me as any match I ever had.”
Abyss said that being a WWE producer isn’t easy, but it’s a good kind of challenge. Every day brings something new. When he first started, he thought he knew a lot, but over the past seven years, he’s learned so much more.
Abyss learned from smart and experienced people backstage like Michael Hayes, Triple H, Bruce Prichard, and others. They helped him become better at his job. His years of wrestling experience, combined with what he’s learned as a producer, now help him do a great job helping today’s wrestlers.
“It’s not an easy job. It’s challenging in a good way, in a great way. No two days are the same. Every day is a different challenge. And when I walked in there, I thought I was pretty smart—and I was—but nowhere near as smart as I’ve become over the last seven years. I’ve learned so much in the last seven years from WWE, from being around minds like Michael Hayes, obviously Triple H, Bruce Prichard, Ed Koskey, Ryan Ward, Brian James—those guys, they’re brilliant people. And you can’t help but learn from them.”
It is also to be noted that Abyss has absolutely made it clear he has no plans of stepping back inside the squared circle ever again since he is more than content in his role as a WWE producer. Naturally, fans wouldn’t have it any other way either since Abyss has been doing great in the role and that’s not going to change.
