Skye Blue might be on her way back to the AEW ring sooner than fans expected. The 25-year-old has been out of action since July 2024 after suffering a brutal ankle injury during a match with Hikaru Shida on AEW Collision.

According to Fightful Select, Blue was backstage at this week’s AEW Dynamite taping in Norfolk. It’s unclear if she’s nearing an official in-ring return or simply visiting, but her presence backstage is a positive sign. The timing is notable as AEW is set to return to her hometown of Chicago on May 14 for Dynamite and Collision: Beach Break, with May long rumored as a possible target for her clearance.

Skye Blue has previously opened up about her difficult recovery, revealing that her ankle was “completely disconnected from [her] leg.” During a virtual signing with K & S WrestleFest, she explained, “I’m trying (to make my way back to the ring). Healing an ankle is not easy, and especially when it’s completely disconnected from your leg,” she said, laughing. “But, hopefully soon. Getting better and better every day.”

She also shared that she can now walk again after a tough stretch of being unable to move normally. “I can walk. That is a plus. I remember when I couldn’t do that and I was butt scooting up my stairs. Oh, that was the worst… It was funny.”

While there’s still no confirmed date for her in-ring return, her backstage appearance combined with her steady progress makes it clear she’s getting closer. If AEW plans it right, her comeback could take place in front of a hometown crowd.
