There’s finally clarity around what sent hardcore wrestling icon Abdullah The Butcher to the hospital—and it’s serious.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the 84-year-old legend suffered two strokes earlier this year, confirming what many feared was a major health crisis. When asked by Bryan Alvarez for an update on Abdullah’s condition, Meltzer didn’t hesitate to deliver the facts.
“He’s doing better. He had two strokes from what I understand. But he’s—he’s doing better, so that’s good news. I mean, you know… eighty-four.”
Meltzer added that Abdullah’s health issues date back decades due to his size and physical toll from years in the ring, but credited the star’s recent transformation for aiding his recovery.
“Yeah. I mean, he was very, very heavy. Like, very heavy for decades, but still going. He’s lost a lot, a lot of weight. Thank God. And, yeah, he’s recovering well, that’s good news.”
Just days earlier, Abdullah’s team released a public statement through Book Pro Wrestlers, assuring fans that the wrestling legend was “awake, recovering, smiling, and in great spirits.” A photo released with the update showed the former wrestler alert in a hospital bed, offering some relief to long-time fans.
Abdullah The Butcher carved out a reputation as one of the most violent and unpredictable figures in wrestling history. Known for his unfiltered style and iconic look, his influence still looms large across the industry. While the road ahead remains uncertain, it’s clear he’s still fighting in true Abdullah fashion.
