Lucha libre fans were hyped for AAA’s live debut on FOX in January, but now some news about their second taping has fans wondering if this new TV deal is already showing cracks.
According to Lucha Blog, AAA announced its second FOX-era taping will go down on February 7, 2026, in Querétaro, Mexico—a regular stop for the company each January or February since 2015, except for the COVID years. On paper, that’s a strong follow-up to their January 17 live FOX debut out of Mexico City. But there’s a catch.
The three-week gap between the first and second events is raising red flags about the direction of AAA’s new FOX deal. Instead of going live weekly—a move fans hoped for—AAA might be sticking to its old ways: batch tapings with delayed air dates.
“That is a typical January/February stop for AAA… this taping is three weeks after the Fox debut on January 17, which tells us the TV plan is one of two things.”
The first thing is that AAA could be packing multiple shows into a single night and airing them later, rather than delivering live action week after week. And for longtime fans who dealt with that model under networks like Space and Televisa, it’s a frustrating déjà vu.
“It’s more likely that the first option is that people who watch AAA will be stuck in the same pattern as Space and Televisa before it, which has been a point of frustration for AAA fans at the moment. That might be the only option AAA has for the moment, but fans expect full shows from here on out, and it would be in AAA’s best interest to manage expectations.”
There’s a second possibility—though less likely—that AAA and FOX might only air occasional live shows and skip the weekly format entirely:
“Fox is airing occasional live AAA full shows and not going every week.”
While that could allow for bigger one-off events, it’s a risky strategy. As Lucha Blog revealed, no wrestling promotion has ever stuck with that model because weekly TV is what builds fan habits—and sells better to advertisers.
As of now, FOX and AAA haven’t revealed the official format, schedule, or episode length of the series. But if the current rollout is any clue, fans might be in for more pre-taped content than they expected.
If AAA wants to expand with FOX’s muscle behind them, they may need to do more than just tape great shows—they’ll need to deliver consistency, too. Right now, that’s still up in the air.
