AAA Had Different Plans for Los Gringos Locos 2.0 Before Dominik Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano brought back the infamous Los Gringos Locos faction on AAA programming, reviving a name that once defined lucha libre heel heat. But according to Sam Adonis, this modern reboot wasn’t the original plan—and he was supposed to be at the center of it.

A fan on X/Twitter suggested that Los Gringos Locos 2.0 needed Sam Adonis in the mix with Dominik and El Grande Americano. The user declared:

“If they are bringing back my favorite Lucha faction from my youth, Los Gringos 2.0 with Dom Mysterio and El Grande Americano. They need to put Sam Adonis in this modern day re-boot of Los Gringo Locos. Trust me on this. Do not doubt me. Put Sam Adonis in Los Gringos Locos 2.0.”

Sam Adonis wasted no time replying—dropping a bit of behind-the-scenes news that most fans never knew. He revealed AAA had entirely different plans for the revival of the group before they were scrapped.

“Actually, myself and QT Marshall were slated to be the new Gringos Locos in 2024. AAA had a logo made for merch & we did pretapes for TV, but certain ‘factors’ forced the idea to be scrapped. Although, Myself and @DomMysterio35 together would be…”

Adonis teased that a partnership with Dominik Mysterio would be money—though he left fans guessing at what could’ve been. It’s unclear what those “factors” were, but the company clearly pivoted fast. AAA was reportedly ready to roll with merchandise and even filmed TV content before dropping the concept.

The original Los Gringos Locos, formed in the ‘90s by Eddie Guerrero and Art Barr, were notorious for mocking Mexican culture in one of AAA’s most controversial angles ever. That legacy lives on in this updated version featuring Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano, who have been getting solid heat—and fan support—as the latest incarnation of the faction.

The current Los Gringos Locos 2.0 are already set for a showdown with the Lucha Brothers at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event on December 20. As for Sam Adonis, his version of the group might’ve never hit the ring—but now that the idea is public, don’t rule out a twist in the story just yet.

Wrestling fans love a faction war, and if AAA is smart, there’s still a way to bring Adonis into the fold down the line.
