Jade Cargill’s Queen of the Ring run might be her ticket to the top, but the plan was for her to already be champion by now—if it wasn’t for an untimely injury.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed WWE’s original intentions for Cargill and how they still view her as a future main-event star. After Bryan Alvarez speculated that Jade could win the tournament and face Tiffany Stratton at SummerSlam, Meltzer explained how WWE has seen her potential from the start.

“Yeah, I mean, they have a lot—you know, in their minds, in their minds—you know, Jade’s, Jade’s a big-time superstar. I mean, even though Asuka’s obviously, you know, much, much better wrestler, but… but they have that in their mind. So I could see, you know, Jade—Queen of the Ring makes sense—and going with Jade against, you know, what? Stratton? Like… I don’t know… at SummerSlam. I mean, you know, maybe.”

Meltzer also revealed that Jade was supposed to hold gold long before WrestleMania 41 ever arrived.

“And, you know, like, Jade was supposed to be… if she hadn’t gotten hurt… Jade was supposed to be champion by WrestleMania… and… and defending it at WrestleMania. Not at WrestleMania, but before WrestleMania.”

Cargill’s injury late last year temporarily stalled that momentum, but WWE’s plans to position her as a dominant force clearly haven’t changed. With the Queen of the Ring tournament heating up and SummerSlam looming, her push to the top could be back on track sooner than expected.
