Tommy Billington’s future with AEW remains up in the air, even after months of speculation that the rising star had signed with the company. While many believed he was locked in with AEW after strong showings against Konosuke Takeshita and Dax Harwood in late 2024, it now looks like that momentum didn’t lead to a consistent run.

During a Fightful Select Q&A in June 2025, Sean Ross Sapp addressed a fan question asking what happened to Billington after the supposed AEW deal.

“Well, that’s pretty much what happened. People internally claimed that he was signed, and then he wasn’t used much. He’s actually worked in Canada, Japan and the USA on the indies over the last few months, which is promising.”

Back in August 2024, it was reported that sources close to Billington believed he had been signed, and there was even noted NXT interest in the 23-year-old prospect. However, AEW never confirmed the signing publicly, and no long-term TV appearances followed.

His brother, Mark Billington, was reportedly injured in December 2024 during a match for Dungeon Wrestling, which may have impacted their momentum as a tag unit.

Still, despite the lack of AEW presence, Tommy Billington isn’t staying idle. His recent indie work across three countries is a strong sign he’s staying in the game and keeping his options open.

Do you think Tommy Billington deserves a real AEW push, or is he better off continuing to build his name on the indies? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
