WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has been part of numerous iconic moments during his WWE career and that includes his memorable milk truck segment during the Attitude Era. However, Angle has now revealed that the truck didn’t actually have real milk.
On August 20, 2001, Kurt Angle was heavily involved in a feud with Steve Austin and The Alliance. In the iconic segment, the Olympic gold medalist decided to cause chaos by bringing out a truck full of milk and spraying it all over Stephanie McMahon, Steve Austin and The Alliance.
While speaking on WWE Retrospective, Kurt Angle talked about the milk truck segment. The WWE Hall of Famer revealed that the milk coming from the hose wasn’t real, it was just water mixed with white food coloring to make it look like milk. But the cartons he drank from and threw were filled with real milk.
“This is the greatest moment of my career, above WrestleManias, above everything, this one moment defined my career. It made me so excited about who I was and what I represented, not just an Olympic gold medalist, but a milk drinker and a top wrestler in the company. I mean, Stone Cold and I were going head to head. I’m wrestling the top guy in the company, and I’m one of the other top guys, and this just made it valid for me that I knew who I was and where I was heading.
Just so you know, that is not milk right there. That is white food coloring with water. That hose is hooked up to a socket or a faucet backstage, and there’s white food coloring at the end of the hose. So when it comes out, it looks white.”
After the show, Angle had to catch a late-night flight and didn’t have time to change clothes. He flew wearing the same outfit soaked in milk. During the flight, the milk started to smell sour. Other passengers began complaining about the bad smell, and Angle worried they’d realize it was coming from him. He tried to hide the smell by covering his shoes and holding his shirt close.
Even with all that, Kurt said this was one of the most important moments of his career. It made him feel like a real star in WWE, going up against Stone Cold as one of the top wrestlers. He loved that his character stood out as a proud milk drinker and not just an Olympic gold medalist.
“The milk I had in the truck was real cartons of milk. So these are the real milk. I’m going to tell you guys a quick story. You see how I’m dressed right here? I had to catch a red eye that night, and it was right after this event, so I couldn’t change. I had this outfit on. The only thing I did was take off my gold medals, and I went straight to the airport. I had milk all over my shirt, my pants, and my shoes.
I get on the airplane, and about three hours into it, you start smelling sour milk, and a lot of people are getting really mad, saying, ‘Who the hell smells that bad?’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, they’re going to find out it’s me.’ So I covered my shoes, and I wrapped my arms around my shirt and tried to make sure I didn’t smell as badly as they said I did. It was a crazy plane ride home. Smelled like sour milk the whole trip. It was hilarious.”
Kurt Angle’s milk truck moment is still one of the most loved segments in WWE history. Even though it’s surprising that real milk wasn’t used in the hose, that doesn’t take away from how fun and iconic the segment was and that’s never changing.
