Buddy Matthews wrestled Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam: Australia, but he injured his ankle during his entrance before the match even began. It’s been a few months since then, and now it appears that he’s had a setback in his recovery.

While speaking during an Instagram Live session, Buddy Matthews was asked how his recovery was going and if he will return anytime soon. Matthews revealed that he’s dealing with a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury.

Matthews explained that the ankle hasn’t been healing as expected and still lacks mobility, which is making it difficult for him to move properly. He noted that once it hits three months without healing, the injury may become chronic.

The AEW star admitted the situation is frustrating but said that his health has to come first, especially if he can’t perform at 100 percent. Originally, he had hoped to be back in the ring by April.

“The ankle is not recovering as well as I thought it would be. There’s no mobility to it—if I can’t have mobility, I can’t move properly. Once it hits three months without healing, it becomes chronic. So yeah, I have to deal with that. It sucks. But if I can’t do the things I want to do at 100%, then health has to come first. I thought I’d be back in the ring in April.”

Buddy Matthews is still recovering from his injury, but it’s just unfortunate it isn’t going as well as he would have liked. Regardless, we’ll have to see if he will make his in-ring return this year, as fans definitely miss him.
