Rey Mysterio hasn’t competed in the ring since the March 29 episode of SmackDown, and now the full story behind his absence has come to light—including surgery, a busted eardrum, and a confirmed return timeline. Fans wondering why he missed WrestleMania 41 just got their answer—and it’s more serious than many realized.

Mysterio was forced to pull out of WrestleMania 41 after suffering a torn abductor muscle, an injury that required surgery. On top of that, he was also dealing with a damaged eardrum, making the decision to sideline him unavoidable. While WWE hadn’t provided a full explanation publicly, Konnan revealed all the key details during his appearance on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast.

When asked if there were plans to work with Rey again and whether Mysterio would be involved in upcoming AAA/WWE events, Konnan made it clear that Rey’s return is already in motion.

“Yeah, he will be in future shows. Great working with him and Dom, and I can’t wait to see who else I’m going to get to work with.”

He then offered the first concrete update on Mysterio’s recovery and return date.

“He’s not back till August.”

This puts Mysterio on track for a summer comeback, months after undergoing surgery and battling through a painful ear injury. Despite being sidelined, he did make an appearance at the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event, where he paid tribute to the heritage of Lucha Libre and engaged with fans—though he wasn’t physically cleared to compete.

Rey’s recovery marks a key turning point in what’s already been a challenging year for the veteran. His last match was a tag team bout on SmackDown, and since then, fans have been left guessing about when he’d return—or if he might be nearing retirement.

With August now locked in as his tentative return, speculation is building about what WWE might have lined up for him. Whether it’s another showdown with his son Dominik, a new alliance, or one final singles run, the door is wide open.
