Britt Baker became the center of internet speculation today after Jonathan Coachman claimed she was “gone from AEW—close” to signing with WWE. The comment, made during Behind the Turnbuckle, sent fans into overdrive—until reality quickly stepped in.

Coachman initially teased a “top female talent” heading to WWE. When a co-host guessed Britt Baker, he confirmed it outright.

“Ding ding ding ding. Gone from AEW—close. My sources keep coming to your boy!”

He went on to say Baker was ready for WWE, and suggested her AEW status took a dive because she spoke up backstage.

“She is ready—she’s so ready. She’s got the built-in storyline, and she got buried because she pushed back. She spoke up about what was going on, and in wrestling, you know you can’t do that.”

But within hours, Fightful Select poured cold water on the entire story. Their report stated that Britt Baker is still very much under contract with AEW—and will be for a while.

“To be clear, Britt Baker is under contract to AEW, has not left AEW, and signed a five-year contract in late 2021 that would keep her under contract for well over another year, not including possible injury time added.”

Adding to that, a WWE source told Fightful that there haven’t been any recent talks with Baker, though they acknowledged she’s always welcome backstage.

“They have not discussed her coming to WWE in recent years.”

As of now, there are no confirmed creative plans for Baker in either promotion, and today’s headlines seem to have jumped the gun based on speculation rather than facts.

If Britt Baker really is thinking about a WWE jump, she’s got a lot more than buzz to deal with. With over a year left on her AEW contract—plus possible injury time—she’d need to formally request her release, and AEW would have to actually grant it. That’s a big “if” in a company that’s been holding tight to top-tier talent. For now, it looks like this one’s all smoke and no fire… at least until someone lights the fuse.
