Nixon Newell didn’t hold back when talking about life after WWE—and the match she finally got to have with Dani Luna.

The former NXT UK star spoke to Wrestling In Middle and shared how her free agency has been frustratingly slow, despite returning to the British wrestling scene and checking a major name off her in-ring bucket list.

Newell recently wrestled Luna on May 18 at ATTACK! C’est La Vie, and said the opportunity meant a lot to her—even if the rest of her schedule hasn’t been nearly as promising.

“Not great on being honest. Um, severe lack of bookings. Uh, not sure where that’s from, but the bookings that I have done—like, I’ve been home to Attack, which has been phenomenal. Got to wrestle Dani Luna, who’s been on my list for years… But yeah, it’s been slow. Hopefully it picks up soon, ‘cause it’s a nightmare. But hopefully soon it gets better.”

Luna, currently signed to TNA Wrestling, is still a major force in the UK indie scene, making the match a meaningful return moment for Newell, who’s still trying to rebuild momentum after her WWE release.

She also talked about how that release felt—and why part of her saw it coming after being barely used.

“Kind of half and half. Like, it wasn’t a shock to me with how less I was booked… Did I want it to happen? Yes and no. In a sense of—no, that was my dream job. I’ve wanted that since I was a kid. All my friends worked there at the time. But yes—I wanted to wrestle, which, you know, still hasn’t panned out great—but at least now I can do what I want to do and have fun with wrestling again. Instead of just being stuck in the same story with the knees, which was the most disheartening thing to constantly keep doing.”

Newell clarified she hasn’t had any knee injuries since 2019, but said the constant callbacks to those injuries in WWE creative became limiting and frustrating.
