WWE’s Money in the Bank Premium Live Event featured a surprise Intercontinental Championship match after Dominik Mysterio and Octagon Jr. got into a heated brawl during the Worlds Collide special earlier in the day. That altercation led to an impromptu showdown at Money in the Bank—but the end result didn’t sit well with many.
During the June 8, 2025 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer didn’t hold back on how the match was handled.
“They buried Octagon Jr. That was a burial. That thing didn’t even go five minutes. It was just Dominik beating him clean and nothing more. He got nothing in. That’s not how you debut a guy like that, especially in a showcase setting.”
Meltzer emphasized that Octagon Jr. wasn’t protected at all, and WWE’s booking sent the wrong message during an event meant to spotlight crossover talent.
“It was supposed to be a celebration of AAA and WWE working together. And then you go and just beat Octagon Jr. in under five with no story and no resistance? That was a mistake.”
“He wasn’t protected. There was no build, no back-and-forth. The match made it clear that WWE didn’t see him as a priority. Not even for one night.”
Octagon Jr.’s WWE debut should’ve been a spotlight moment, but instead it turned into a one-sided beatdown that left fans and insiders questioning what WWE was thinking. When a top AAA talent gets called up and immediately flattened, it sends a loud message—and not the good kind. If this was WWE’s idea of honoring their working relationship with AAA, they might want to rethink the playbook before they burn the bridge entirely.
