Nick and Ryan Nemeth didn’t hold back during their appearance on SHAK Wrestling, and one of the wildest stories came from Nick’s early WWE days—when creative demanded he come up with a character name starting with specific letters.
Ryan explained how the entire thing came out of nowhere and led to some truly questionable suggestions:
“The worst ideas he was running by me weren’t his ideas. They were—uh, maybe you remember this or not—you, I think, texted me and said, ‘I need names that start with D and Z.’ You know, the boss says I have to think of this. And then we were asking, ‘What did he think of?’ And the list you would show us—we were like, ‘Oh my god.’”
One of those names stood out for all the wrong reasons—especially because it came from a family connection:
“Our father’s name is Don, and I think Don Dynamo was one of them that was on there. I mean, that doesn’t sound real or good—because Dolph Ziggler sounds so real—but like Don Dynamo is the only one I can think of, which is pretty funny.”
Nick chimed in to admit that most of the worst gimmick ideas weren’t his fault. He pointed the finger at WWE’s creative team for putting him in the position in the first place, even though he played along for a while.
“It’s usually someone else’s idea, but him being nice about it and going, ‘Okay,’ and then I’m like, ‘Ryan, this one time we gotta say no.’”
The brothers turned a cringe-worthy naming process into a hilarious moment, exposing just how random and awkward WWE’s branding demands can be behind the curtain. While Dolph Ziggler became a name fans know around the world, it could’ve been something a lot worse—like Don Dynamo.
What do you think—should WWE allow wrestlers more control over their own ring names? Drop your take in the comments and let us know if Don Dynamo would’ve flopped or become a cult classic.
