Sheamus just addressed the elephant in the room—and made it clear R-Truth’s WWE story isn’t over. While fans continue dragging TKO across social media over the exits of R-Truth and Carlito, Sheamus gave the first real inside perspective on what’s going on behind the scenes.
During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the Celtic Warrior got real about the emotional fan backlash and explained why the wrestling business isn’t always what it seems.
The conversation kicked off when Pat McAfee brought up how hard it is for fans to say goodbye to their favorite Superstars—especially when no one sees it coming. He asked Sheamus how WWE talent knows when it’s really time to go, and whether guys like R-Truth saw this coming.
Sheamus didn’t flinch. He shared his honest take, reminding everyone that wrestling exits are rarely permanent.
“Sometimes people don’t know… You know, from a perspective of what we do—entertainment—it’s about entertaining the fans. And people… like I’m sure in the NFL, fans see what a player does in interviews and everything and on the field. But from our perspective, the fans get to know who that person is. They get to fall in love with the character and the personality. Like with Truth, for example—he’s one of the most beloved because he’s one of the most entertaining.”
He then looked back on his first time working with R-Truth, and how their bond formed from day one.
“I had my first dark match against him when I came up in ’07, I think. ’08 I joined—’07/’08. I came up on the road for a dark match and he had just come back after he was with the company, went to TNA, and came back again. So we had a dark match together on the road, and from then we bonded. That fella walks in the dressing room and it’s just… laugh. He’s got a contagious laugh that would just light up the room.”
But when it comes to knowing when someone’s run is really over, Sheamus said there’s never a clear sign—and most of the time, it’s not the end at all.
“But there’s no way of knowing, man. You just gotta go out there and do what you can. Sometimes you can’t tell when that time is. But a lot of guys come back though—that’s the wrestling business”
Then he delivered the line that had fans breathing a little easier.
“And it’s not the end. It’s not the end. So many people—so many guys and girls—have left and come back. It’s not the end. Sometimes it’s a bit of a break. There’s no way Truth’s not going to come back at some stage. I’m sure you’ll see him again. Like, a Hall of Famer. He’s definitely a pillar. Yeah.”
And it wasn’t just about R-Truth—Sheamus threw support behind Carlito as well.
“And the same with Caro—Carlito. Carlito was gone for a while, he came back. It’s not the end. If you truly want to find your way back, you’ll find your way back. It’s not the end for anybody.”
So while fans rage in TKO’s mentions and WWE stays silent, Sheamus is speaking up—and keeping the door wide open for R-Truth’s return.
