Dustin Rhodes just snapped back at a fan account—and it all started with a simple post about Mariah May.
After CrispyWrestling shared a screenshot showing Toni Storm liking a video clip of Mariah May’s WWE NXT debut, the AEW veteran wasn’t having it. The post read “Toni Storm supporting Mariah May after her move to WWE,” and showed that Storm, who worked closely with May in AEW, had interacted with the post on Instagram.
Rhodes quickly replied on Twitter, writing: “Dude please shut your account down. I support everyone as well.”
That response instantly lit up timelines, especially because the original post wasn’t negative—it simply pointed out support between two former storyline allies. But if you’ve been following Rhodes lately, the outburst shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Just recently, Dustin vented during Close Up with Renee Paquette about what he calls the toxic WWE vs AEW narrative—something he blames on fans, not wrestlers.
“And I feel it every single day. And you know with all the tribalism out there about the other place and us and what’s good, what’s bad, whatever — they have no idea how hard we work and what goes on back.”
He defended AEW’s progress and long-term plans, stating:
“I mean we’re a startup company. This is our sixth year. We are growing every single year, doing amazing, making huge amounts of money, working all over the world.”
And closed with this: “It is a place I want to be and finish my career.”
Dustin’s online frustration reflects a larger theme in AEW lately, with several stars and executives using the term “tribalism” to clap back at fans celebrating WWE’s renewed success under Triple H. While AEW is still finding its footing, WWE is once again drawing record numbers, top-level reactions, and high-profile talent like Mariah May.
For fans, the moment was just a cool nod between Toni and Mariah. But for Dustin, it was another reminder of what he sees as online toxicity—and he’s clearly had enough.
UPDATE Dustin Rhodes deleted his post shortly after this article was published.
