Jonathan Coachman is setting the record straight after his comments sparked a frenzy of rumors about Vince McMahon possibly looking to buy WWE back.

The speculation gained traction after Coachman’s appearance on Behind the Turnbuckle, where he discussed the potential for McMahon’s return to the company. However, Coachman clarified that his words were taken out of context.

In an update on May 30, 2025, Coachman took to Twitter to address the confusion and set the record straight. He explained that he never directly said Vince was actively trying to buy WWE but rather mentioned that McMahon had shown interest in doing so if the circumstances were right. Coachman wrote:

“Wrestling Twitter is hilarious. They take 2 sentences then run with it and it mushrooms out of control. All I said is my sources told me that Vince is looking to reinvest his money. Clearly that is accurate. Also I asked if WWE came available would that be something he would be interested in. I was told yes. At NO point have I ever said Vince is buying WWE nor did I ever say TKO wants to sell.”

Coachman continued to clarify the situation, explaining that his conversation about McMahon’s potential return was based on hypothetical scenarios. He emphasized that McMahon’s interest in purchasing WWE could happen “if things went bad for the next 3-5 years.” Coachman said:

“If you listen to the whole podcast I said if things went bad for the next 3-5 years and Vince put everything behind him that it’s possible he would want to buy it back. But certain ran with a story that wasn’t accurate.”

Coachman went on to stress the importance of listening to the entire podcast to understand the full context of his statement. He noted that the situation was blown out of proportion based on snippets taken from his conversation:

“Make it a point to not just read the headline but actually if you are going to comment actually go and listen. Just like all of the other topics I broke this year and was crushed for. Once you actually listened you saw I was right. Which is not about me being right. These are the things we discuss on @TheCoachandBro show which is why it’s getting so popular. We talk big picture items which the health of the company and the future is always on the table.”

This update comes after widespread speculation, including theories from Vince Russo, suggesting McMahon had planned for his departure from WWE with the intention of coming back once his legal troubles were behind him. Russo theorized that McMahon may have made a deal with TKO to temporarily step away and return later to buy back WWE.

Now, with Coachman’s clarification, it appears the rumors were based on a misunderstanding of his original comments. McMahon’s return to WWE ownership remains speculative, with no concrete plans confirmed as of yet.
