Hangman Page’s victory over Will Ospreay in the AEW Double or Nothing main event wasn’t just a storyline moment — it was the result of a secretive decision-making process that caught even insiders off guard.
According to Fightful Select, AEW and Tony Khan intentionally kept the result under wraps for weeks. In fact, Khan was described as non-committal even when talent directly asked who would win. While many believed the result was decided the day of the show, sources revealed that Page and Ospreay were informed earlier in the weekend.
Both stars reportedly pushed for the other to go over. Hangman Page wanted Will Ospreay to win, and Ospreay pushed for Page to get the victory. The mutual respect between them only added to the drama backstage.
Even Jon Moxley — who will now face Hangman Page at All In: Texas on July 12 — was said to lean toward Page winning.
The overall feeling backstage was one of shock, as many within AEW fully expected Ospreay to take the win. Despite the uncertainty, the match was said to be physical but within reason, and both Page and Ospreay were healthy after it ended.
The win now launches Hangman Page into a huge AEW World Title showdown against Moxley, with All In: Texas shaping up to be one of AEW’s biggest nights of the year.
