Goldberg’s retirement match might finally have a target date and location—and it’s one that carries extra weight for the WWE Hall of Famer.
According to Fightful Select, internal discussions within WWE this week indicate that Goldberg’s farewell could take place in Atlanta, Georgia. That lines up with a recent Ringside News report that first broke the potential location.
“It’s going to be in the South,” Goldberg previously told My San Antonio. “This gives me the opportunity to put a stamp on my career in front of the people I care the most about.”
Atlanta isn’t just a random southern city for Goldberg—it’s personal. He played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs, suited up for the Atlanta Falcons, and became a WCW icon with the Georgia Dome as one of his most memorable stomping grounds.
The date WWE is eyeing makes this even more interesting. Saturday Night’s Main Event is internally slated for July 12, the same night AEW is scheduled to run All In. While WWE hasn’t publicly confirmed the date or the match, multiple sources have said that Goldberg is being “absolutely discussed” for the show.
While not officially confirmed as his retirement bout, everything appears to be lining up: Goldberg has signed off on the creative, he’s been getting back into fighting shape, and WWE seems ready to give him one final sendoff on his terms.
“I feel a little bit better, I’ve gained a little bit of weight man. Done a little kickboxing on the weekends. I’m getting there man, I’ve got a little bit of time left. Slowly but surely, Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
“Believe me, it’s been really tough to control myself but I think I’m on a good schedule. I’m injury free as of right now.”
“It’s like rebuilding a car. You’ve got to strip it down to the bare minimum and sequentially build it in a logical form… I can’t get overzealous and put shit on before it’s time. It’s a very slow process but I think the way I’m going about it is hopefully gonna work.”
As for his opponent, GUNTHER’s name continues to swirl following their tense WWE Bad Blood faceoff. With a potential retirement show on the horizon and momentum building, all signs point to Goldberg finally getting the sendoff he’s been chasing.
