Mariah May is finally speaking up—but it’s not the announcement fans were expecting.
After weeks of speculation about her AEW status, the former Women’s World Champion took to social media to respond to growing rumors that she may be leaving the company. Her answer? She’s just taking a break.
When one fan tweeted, “One day, many years from now, someone will ask, whatever happened to @MariahMayx?”—referencing her absence since losing to Toni Storm at AEW Revolution—May fired back with a sarcastic reply: “God forbid a girl takes a vacation.”
That one tweet sent a message loud and clear. Despite cryptic posts like her recent “Finally someone let me out of my cage” Instagram caption, which fueled talk of a WWE jump, May is keeping it casual and unbothered—for now.
May hasn’t been seen on AEW programming since her Hollywood Ending match loss to Storm in March, and with her contract rumored to expire in November, fans were convinced she was already done with the company. Back in March, Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer even reported that May informed AEW she had no plans to re-sign. “Apparently May made it clear at that time that she was not signing a new deal,” Meltzer wrote.
With Toni Storm now set to defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Mina Shirakawa at Double or Nothing, all eyes remain on what May does next—once the vacation’s over.
Do you think Mariah May is really just taking time off, or is she teasing her exit from AEW? Should she jump to WWE, or stay where she is? Sound off in the comments.
