Hulk Hogan has been the talk of the town ever since he announced his new venture called Real American Freestyle Wrestling alongside Eric Bischoff and Izzy Martinez. Hogan wants his promotion to set itself apart from WWE and now it appears he has taken a shot at WWE’s overly scripted way of doing things.
While speaking to Adam’s Apple, Hulk Hogan was asked if his freestyle wrestling promotion was becoming more like WWE when it comes to the sports entertainment aspect.
In response, Hogan took a shot at WWE as he said his promotion isn’t relying on a team of 25 writers telling wrestlers how to act, what to say, or what catchphrases to use. Instead, the athletes will speak from the heart, and there will be a focus on keeping things organic and real.
“I have to tell you, we’re not doing this with 25 writers in the back telling you what to be, how to act, or what catchphrase to say. They’ll speak from the heart. We’re going real organic with these guys.”
Hogan also stated that he was a little worried at first about whether the amateur wrestlers would have strong personalities or confidence. But after meeting them, he saw that they had the same kind of energy as someone like Conor McGregor. He noted that they have watched wrestling on TV, they understand how promos work, and they know about building their own brand.
“The thing I worried about was with these amateur wrestlers—do they have the swag? Do they know how to bring an edge to their real personality? But after I met with them, they all had that Conor McGregor swag. They’ve all watched TV, they’ve seen the promos, they know about branding. These kids are really, really smart.”
That’s not all, as Hulk Hogan also teased Donald Trump’s appearance at Real American Freestyle Wrestling’s debut show on August 30th. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see whether Hogan’s promotion will stand out and be completely different from WWE, since Hogan is definitely confident about that fact.
