WWE’s Roast of WrestleMania was supposed to be over-the-top entertainment, but it’s turned into a PR mess that the company clearly didn’t expect to snowball this fast.
After the entire two-hour audio of the roast leaked online on April 23, WWE has been working hard to scrub it from platforms like YouTube, Reddit, and Twitter. But now, fans are wondering—are any of the talent in trouble for the wild things that were said?
According to Sean Ross Sapp on the Fightful Select Q&A podcast, the answer is no. “Not that I’ve heard from the company. It’d be kind of silly if they asked these people to do a roast and book them out for it and then gave them heat,” Sapp explained. “I mean, listen, you had to know it was going to be controversial—everybody knew it.”
The roast, hosted by Tony Hinchcliffe at the Fontainebleau’s BleauLive Theatre in Las Vegas after WrestleMania 41 Night Two, featured speakers including Nia Jax, Paul Heyman, Sami Zayn, Pat McAfee, R-Truth, Braun Strowman, and The Miz. While some fans in attendance enjoyed the chaos, others were stunned by what they heard—and even more shocked when it hit the internet.
Among the most offensive lines: “It’s Hitler’s birthday, so Gunther is in luck,” and another aimed at Jinder Mahal: “He’s going through a middle-aged ISIS thing.” A disturbing jab at Gunther said he looked like “Adolf Hitler put himself in the ovens.” There were also racially charged jokes about the LWO and Jacob Fatu, transphobic remarks involving Shayna Baszler, and abuse jokes about Alberto Del Río and Paige.
Nia Jax also allegedly crossed the line with intense personal digs at Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Reports suggest Charlotte even unfollowed Jax on social media afterward.
Despite the backlash, WWE’s internal stance seems to be one of acceptance—at least for now. The company promoted the roast as unfiltered, and insiders suggest they knew what they were getting into.
