Karrion Kross turned heads with a scathing promo during the WrestleMania 41 recap show, venting about being left off the biggest card of the year. Fans immediately started questioning whether the promo was a worked storyline or a real shoot—and now we finally have an answer.
On the Fightful Select Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp cleared the air about the promo’s true nature. According to Sapp, it was both a shoot and a work. “A lot of people asking if it was a work or a shoot—it was both. It wasn’t scripted. It all came from him. He did weave storyline in and out of it,” Sapp said.
He confirmed that the promo was a recorded interview and not some off-the-cuff moment. “They added it onto an uploaded video, so they knew what he said and the possibility it could create attention.” Despite how raw and intense it came off, the segment was edited, approved, and intentionally broadcast.
What made the promo even more impactful was the backstage response. Multiple WWE stars reportedly reached out to Kross after it aired—not out of concern, but to support him. “We heard from numerous talent that told us they reached out to Kross and thanked him, said it was great, and that he said a lot of things that sort of blurred the lines, but were also legitimate criticisms within the company,” Sapp revealed.
Kross is known backstage as someone who’s “very easy to work with” and “ambitious creatively,” which likely helped this raw segment make it to the final cut. Even so, Sapp admitted “a lot of people were surprised it made air due to the language and everything like that.”
With WWE giving the green light to this kind of reality-infused promo, it’s clear they’re leaning into more authentic storytelling—and Kross might just be the one leading that charge.
