Becky Lynch made her return at WrestleMania 41, teaming up with Lyra Valkyria and becoming the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion. However, she turned on Valkyria in a shocking betrayal on the April 21st edition of Raw and now the individual behind the heel turn has been revealed.
According to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, the entire storyline was Becky Lynch’s own idea. She pitched the plan in advance, returning to win the titles and then betraying Valkyria the following night.
While Alvarez initially questioned the move, it ended up being a well-executed heel turn. Though the crowd initially cheered Lynch, reactions quickly changed online, with fans dubbing her “Becky Hogan” in reference to the sudden change.
What wasn’t clear at first was that Lynch also planned to lose the titles right before the betrayal, adding more heat to the moment. While her heel turn didn’t fully hit on Raw, Alvarez noted that fans should expect her to fully embrace the heel role moving forward.
“This whole thing was Becky’s idea. It was all Becky’s idea. I heard about it in advance. ‘Becky wants to come back, she wants to win the title, then turn on Lyra the next night.’
When I heard it, I was like, ‘What? This is an absolutely horrible idea.’ But as it turns out, her coming back and winning the title, if you went on Twitter after that show – they all cheered Becky and everything – but very shortly thereafter, there were all the ‘Becky Hogan’ posts.
I didn’t know that her plan involved losing the title. I thought she was gonna turn on Lyra as champions and they’d vacate the title or whatever. But losing the title AND turning on her – this all worked out perfect for a heel turn. It didn’t for the Raw after WrestleMania, but she’ll be a heel next week.”
Becky Lynch’s choice to turn heel shows how much she cares about telling good stories and keeping her character interesting. Turning on a popular star like Lyra Valkyria proves she’s not afraid to change things up to keep fans on their toes.
With this heel turn now in motion, fans can expect to see a side of Becky Lynch that they have not really seen since 2022, so we will have to wait and see how WWE will book Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria’s feud in the coming weeks.
