Ricky Saints is all about style and panache, and his fashion sense is obviously a big part of his appeal. In fact, fans simply can’t get enough of his iconic pose as well and now he has revealed how he came up with the pose in the first place.

While speaking on the No Contest Wrestling podcast, Ricky Saints revealed how he came up with his famous pose. When he was a kid, he used to dance and move around in funny ways whenever he ate something he really liked. One time, his mom took a picture of him doing a special hand move, and he remembered it.

Later on, when he visited Japan, he was walking around the video game area and saw a commercial or statue that reminded him of the same pose, something like the Statue of David. He tried doing it at a wrestling show in front of a crowd and thought it looked really cool.

When he saw a picture of himself doing the pose, he felt like it showed who he was. He said it made him feel like a “live statue,” enjoying the moment after doing something great.

“The pose came about because when I was younger, whenever I was eating something I really enjoyed, I would dance—I would, like, do these random things. And I saw a picture of me—actually, my mom caught me in mid-motion doing this thing with my hands.

I remember I went to Japan, and I was walking around in the video game district, and there was this commercial—or maybe like a statue—of this dude, like the Statue of David or whatever, doing this pose. I went to the show and did it in front of the crowd, and I was like, ‘Oh wow, that’s so interesting.’

Once I saw the picture of it, I was like, ‘That’s what I am—I’m just a live statue. I’m just a live statue, and I just want to stay still for one moment to bask in it. I do something cool, I like it.'”

Now even at home, he’ll sometimes strike the pose just for fun. It’s become something fans recognize and enjoy, many even ask to take pictures with him while doing it. Ricky sees it as a fun and confident gesture, something simple that can lift people’s spirits.

“At home now, I’ll do something random and go, ‘You know what that was.’ And now it’s so funny—people meet me and they do it, and they want to take pictures like that. So I like it. I think it’s a good boost of confidence for somebody, ’cause, you know, why not really? Hit the pose on them.”

Ricky Saints is currently dominating NXT as the North American Champion and most recently retained his title against Ethan Page in a solid match at NXT Stand & Deliver. No matter what, Saints will keep on posing and inspiring people, so we will have to wait and see how he will get booked in the coming weeks.
