Rey Mysterio’s WrestleMania 41 match might be off the table, and WWE is scrambling behind the scenes to figure out who takes his place.

According to PWInsider, “The Rey Mysterio injury last night on WWE Friday Night SmackDown was 100% legitimate.” While the company hasn’t pulled him from his scheduled bout against El Grande Americano—reportedly Chad Gable under a mask—plans are clearly shifting as officials await medical clearance.

In a subscriber update, Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez revealed WWE’s backup options. “I am told still no word on Rey Mysterio, but Dragon Lee is the likely replacement if he can’t wrestle,” he wrote. “They could do Fenix, but my presumption is El Grande needs to win the first match and they probably wouldn’t want to beat Fenix so early.”

Mysterio was visibly hurt during his match on SmackDown and had to be helped to the back. That’s raised major concerns just hours before Night One of WrestleMania, where he was set to represent Lucha Libre on WWE’s biggest stage.

Despite the real-life injury, WWE is still pushing the match on social media, tweeting: “WWE Hall of Famer @reymysterio competes at #WrestleMania TONIGHT against WWE’s newest sensation @Americano_WWE!” So far, no official replacement has been confirmed.

But with Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix both being discussed backstage, it’s clear WWE wants to keep the match intact, even if it means a last-minute substitution.
