Triple H is the Head of Creative in WWE and often faces a lot of criticism about the WWE product, especially with social media making it easier for fans to share their opinions. That said, it appears Triple H has now responded to the critics in a big way.
While speaking to Peter Rosenberg, Triple H revealed his thoughts on how people watch wrestling and entertainment today. He said he’s tired of all the critics and wishes people would stop overthinking everything. He wants fans to just enjoy the show for what it is, like how you enjoy a movie without picking it apart.
The Game explained that when someone watches something just to enjoy it, they experience it in a fun, natural way. But when they’re asked to review it and think deeply about every little thing, it changes how they watch it, and that can ruin the fun.
“This will sound offensive. Every critic that is out there, I wish I could tell people—f*** off being a critic. Be a fan. Go watch this and be a fan. If I tell you, go to the movies and watch this movie I saw, it’s really good, and you just go to the movie as a fan, you watch it and have one opinion. But if I tell you, hey, go see this movie, but can you give me a one-page detail—what you liked, what you didn’t like, if it worked for you or didn’t work for you—you watch it totally differently. You watch the product totally differently.”
Triple H said things used to be better when fans didn’t know what was going to happen and just watched with excitement. Now, too many people online try to guess or spoil surprises, and even if that’s their job, it takes away from other fans’ enjoyment. Sharing too much, even if it’s true, can ruin moments that were meant to be special.
Triple H also mentioned how some people online try to predict what’s coming next, like saying The Rock is going to show up or have a big match. Most of the time, those guesses are wrong or don’t consider real-life things, like movie schedules.
“It ruins it for people. The world was so much better when nobody knew and you just watched it. Now people go out and try to ruin the surprise—and I get it, that’s their business. They try to tell you what’s going on, but you just ruin it for people. The business that feeds you, you’re now ruining it for people and lessening their enjoyment of it to a large degree because you’re telling them all this, right or wrong, that is going to happen.
The biggest thing I see right now on the internet is people thinking, ‘and then they’re going to do this.’ Yeah, no, we’re not. You know what I mean? And then The Rock’s gonna show up and he’s gonna do this and have the greatest match with this guy of all time. Well, except for his movie schedule, which doesn’t prevent him from doing anything in this timeframe.”
Triple H’s message is clear: wrestling is meant to be fun and enjoyed, not taken too seriously or over-analyzed. Fans are an important part of WWE, but sometimes it’s best to just relax and enjoy the show like it’s meant to be, and it’s unlikely Triple H will ever change his view on this matter.
