HOOK was pulled from the AEW Dynamite Trios Championship main event on April 16, and now we’re learning more about what happened behind the scenes.
The FTW star was originally set to team with Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata to challenge Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta for the AEW Trios Titles. But following last week’s Dynamite—where HOOK was seen vomiting after the match—fans began speculating about a possible injury, with many concerned it could be a concussion.
While AEW didn’t provide an official explanation on-air, Fightful Select followed up with an update: “Regarding Hook, details are few and far between, but we were told that the issue is physical.” The outlet also confirmed that Powerhouse Hobbs was informed on Tuesday, April 16, that he would be taking HOOK’s place in the championship match.
The updated lineup saw Hobbs step in alongside Joe and Shibata to face the Death Riders in the Dynamite main event.
HOOK’s exact condition is still unclear, but AEW’s decision to replace him just one day before the show has only added to the mystery around his status moving forward.
