Mariah May might be wrapping up her time in AEW—and all signs are pointing toward WWE.
The breakout star of AEW’s women’s division hasn’t been seen on TV since her brutal loss to Toni Storm at Revolution, and now we might know why. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there’s talk behind the scenes that May has her eyes set on WWE—and people in the company already know it.
“I know from people in WWE…they know she wants to go there,” Meltzer said. “I don’t know when her contract is up, everyone seems to think it’s this summer.”
Bryan Alvarez backed that up, saying May signed a two-year deal in November 2023 when she joined AEW. Based on that math, her contract might not be quite up yet—but in AEW, insiders are already betting on her departure.
“I was given the impression it’s a two-year deal that she signed originally, so you can do the math. I have heard the same thing. At least in AEW, there’s a belief she’s heading to WWE,” Alvarez added.
Meltzer also noted that AEW boss Tony Khan tends to pull talent off TV once it’s clear they’re leaving. That could explain why May isn’t included in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament or any current storylines.
While WWE might not match AEW’s offer financially, Meltzer believes it won’t matter. According to those close to May, this has always been about the dream.
“My gut is that AEW would offer her a lot more than WWE. I don’t know that, but I would think so,” Meltzer said. “Long before Mariah May ever went to AEW, she was in Japan. I remember people who were good friends with her, and they just said her dream is WWE and that’s still the thing.”
May hasn’t publicly commented on the rumors, but she recently posted a cryptic Instagram story that added more fuel to the fire. “You can’t make the wrong decision because every decision leads you to where you’re supposed to be,” she wrote, sending fans into full speculation mode.
With WrestleMania season heating up and WWE constantly looking to refresh its women’s division, May could be walking into a golden opportunity if she makes the jump. The stage might be bigger, the lights might be brighter—and for Mariah May, that just might be all that matters.
