Lex Luger has had an amazing wrestling career, and after a long wait, he’s finally getting inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. Many fans have been wondering if AEW would let Sting do the honors of inducting him, and now Luger has made it clear that he really hopes AEW allows Sting to induct him into the Hall of Fame.
While speaking to Bill Apter, Lex Luger talked about the idea of Sting possibly inducting him into the WWE Hall of Fame and said he really hopes it can happen. He stated how grateful he is to DDP for all the support over the years and said it would be a dream to have both Sting and DDP with him on stage. Since walking can be hard for him, he imagined them standing on each side, helping him if he starts to fall.
“I said, well, obviously DDP’s been working with me so much in the past, and I’m so thankful. I’d love for him to be out there. But I said, man, if I had a dream scenario—have you ever had a twofer? Two guys out there for somebody? I thought, they could kind of spot me. So if I try walking and I start to fall, I could have my two best buddies there, spotting me on each side.”
Luger said he wouldn’t talk for long during the speech—just a few minutes from the heart, to thank everyone. Lex shared that he mentioned the idea to someone high up in WWE, who is Triple H’s right-hand man. That person said they would need to be run up the chain of command, and Lex Luger hasn’t heard back yet. Still, he thinks it would be a really nice moment for both him and the fans.
“That’s your money shot—Sting on one side of me and DDP on the other, making sure I don’t fall while I’m up there. I’m a pretty brief speaker, so I’ll only be up there a few minutes, speaking from the heart with gratitude and thanks.
I ran the idea by one of the WWE guys—he’s Hunter’s right-hand man—and he said, ‘I know what you’re going to ask. Whoa. I’ll have to run that up the flagpole, but man, I don’t know.’ I haven’t heard anything back yet, but obviously, maybe somewhat selfishly, I think it would be great for the fans too.”
Lex Luger also said that even if WWE allows it, they would still need permission from Tony Khan and AEW for Sting to appear, since Sting works there. Even with all those steps, Lex hopes it can happen because it would mean a lot to him and be something special for the fans to see.
“I mean, I just think it would be a classy thing to allow him up there. Now, WWE may allow him, but he’d also need permission from Tony Khan and AEW. So there are a lot of moving parts there. But ideally, I’d love to have both those guys up there with me. That would be huge for me, and I think it would be special for the fans too.”
Tony Khan recently stated that he wasn’t really sure if Sting would be allowed to attend the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony to induct Lex Luger. He explained that the topic hadn’t come up during his most recent conversation with Sting.
Sting retired at AEW Revolution last year, so seeing him at the WWE Hall of Fame would be a very emotional moment for fans. It would also be really special for Lex Luger, since Sting is one of his closest friends. Luger is finally being honored for his long wrestling career, and many people hope Sting can be the one to introduce him. Therefore, it’s up to Tony Khan to decide if he’ll let Sting attend and be part of that big night.
