Chris Jericho didn’t just walk out of AEW Dynasty without the ROH World Championship—he may have walked out without one of his teeth, too.
During the April 6 pay-per-view in Philadelphia, Jericho faced Bandido in a Title vs. Mask match that had plenty of chaos. After initially retaining his title with the help of Floyd the bat, Jericho was forced to restart the match when Bandido’s family revealed the weapon to the referee. Bandido came back strong, landed the final blow, and left with both his mask intact and the ROH World Championship.
But there was more damage done than fans realized. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez revealed that Jericho suffered a real injury in the match. “Apparently [he] was not happy—Jericho did lose a tooth. It actually happened. Sometimes they say that, but the guy doesn’t spit a spot and they say, ‘Oh my God, he lost his tooth.’ This guy actually lost a tooth.”
It’s unclear exactly when during the bout the dental disaster occurred, but between the bat shots, the slap from Bandido’s family member, and the intense pace of the match, there were plenty of opportunities for something to go wrong. Jericho has a reputation for pushing through pain, but this incident seemed to hit a nerve—literally and figuratively.
Now that Bandido is the new ROH World Champion and Jericho’s reign is over, questions loom about what’s next for The Learning Tree—and how soon he’ll be ready to step back in the ring after that nasty surprise.
