Drew McIntyre had fans talking after his brutal parking lot beatdown on WWE SmackDown, especially when he tweeted, “That was real glass… It got in my eye.” But now, a backstage update has confirmed the full story—and it turns out things weren’t exactly what they looked like.

According to a new report from PWInsider, while McIntyre did in fact receive medical treatment at the scene following the Damian Priest attack, WWE sources say the object removed from his eye was not actually glass.

“After speaking with additional WWE sources upon their return to the United States, we are told that while McIntyre did receive treatment to have something cleared from his eye after the angle at the scene, it was determined that what was removed was not glass,” PWInsider reported.

McIntyre was checked out by WWE medical before leaving the arena, and although he was spotted wearing an eye patch backstage after the segment, sources say he’s doing fine. He reportedly told others that glass had been removed from his eye, but further examination ruled that out.

As for his absence from WWE’s live event in Austria today—don’t worry. McIntyre was never scheduled to appear, so his no-show isn’t injury-related.

The original segment saw Damian Priest attack McIntyre backstage, slam him through a car window, and walk off after saying, “Rest in peace.” The moment felt gritty and real, and the glass comment added fuel to the fire—especially with fans thinking it was a not-so-subtle reference to AEW’s CM Punk vs. Jack Perry “real glass” controversy.

Still, despite the scare, McIntyre appears to be in the clear.

Do you think the “real glass” line was meant as a jab at AEW, or just part of the act? Drop your thoughts in the comments—we want to hear from you.
