Liv Morgan has taken her pain tolerance to the next level this year—but not everyone is applauding the effort. WWE legend Dutch Mantell has a strong opinion on the recent punishment Morgan’s been taking in her matches, and he’s not holding back.
Morgan recently showed off visible scars from her brutal Street Fight with Rhea Ripley at untelevised WWE events in Germany. And let’s not forget Elimination Chamber, where Bianca Belair’s hair whip left a nasty cut across Morgan’s midsection—something WWE cameras made sure to showcase.
During his Story Time with Dutch Mantell podcast, the legendary wrestling manager made it clear he doesn’t think this kind of violence helps the product.
“Well, first of all, Liv Morgan’s a good-looking woman. She’s a very nice, attractive woman, and as far as me, I wanna see them in the ring but I don’t wanna see them all messed up,” Mantell said. “If somebody said, ‘What about the women bleeding?’ I would have said, ‘No, hell no. We don’t need to do that.’ I don’t think that sells you any tickets.”
Even though Morgan has emerged as a top WWE star and is now a member of The Judgment Day alongside Dominik Mysterio and Raquel Rodriguez, Mantell still doesn’t buy into the notion that beatdowns and bruises equal box office.
“You know half your audience is female, and I don’t think the females—even though Liv Morgan, they may not like her—but I don’t think they want to see her beat down like that with scars all over,” he continued. “A scar on a woman is one of the worst things she can have, especially her face, so I never was a fan of that.”
Morgan is scheduled to take on Jade Cargill in Bologna, Italy, on SmackDown this week. Whether she walks out with another battle scar remains to be seen—but Dutch Mantell clearly thinks it’s a risk not worth taking.
