Demolition officially re-signed with WWE under Legends deals earlier this year and rumor suggested that they were being discussed for Hall of Fame inductions this year. However, it appears that it’s highly unlikely they will be inducted this year.
While speaking to Ten Count Media, Bill Eadie (Ax) from Demolition talked about how much fun it is to go to conventions and meet fans. He said that many people ask when he and Barry Darsow (Smash) will be in the WWE Hall of Fame, but he isn’t sure if it will ever happen because there are so many great tag teams out there.
“You know, it’s fun now. You go to all the conventions, and you do all this stuff, and all the fans are asking, ‘When are you going to get into the Hall of Fame?’ Who knows? We may never, ever, because there are so many tag teams out there.”
When asked what it would take for them to accept a Hall of Fame induction, Barry Darsow remembered a conversation he had with Bill at WrestleMania, during WrestleCon. They joked about what they would do if WWE asked them to join.
Since they have been out of wrestling for about 20 years, they wondered if it would even matter now. Barry mentioned that wrestlers usually get around $5,000 or $6,000 for being in the Hall of Fame. He laughed and said that for them, it would probably take at least $100,000 to agree.
Barry explained that if he got that money, he would give $10,000 to his mother-in-law’s church in Belmont, North Carolina. He would also give $10,000 to his son, who works as a deputy in the sheriff’s department with the K-9 unit. He thought about giving more money to different charities and even giving some to his tag team partner. While he was joking about the amount, he said that’s what it would take to convince them.
“Bill and I were kind of laughing about it not too long ago at WrestleMania. That’s when I saw you at WrestleCon. We were laughing and thought, ‘If they asked us to go in, what would we really do now?’ It’s been, what, 20 years since we’ve been around the business? The guys make, what, $5,000 or $6,000 when they go to the Hall of Fame, supposedly?
So, I laughed and thought, ‘I think it would take probably $100,000 at least to bring us in for the Hall of Fame.’ And I thought, what a good number. You know, it’s like my mother-in-law—she’s the greatest woman of all time. She has a church in Belmont, Mount Holly, in North Carolina. I’d give $10,000 of that to her church. Then I’d take another $10,000 and give it to my son—he’s a deputy in the sheriff’s department for the K-9 unit. And then I’d probably give some more money… you know, I’m thinking of all these different charities. Yeah, I’d give my partner $10,000, the driver… but you know what I mean. I’d have to say it’d probably be $100,000 to even get us to go there.”
Bill added that it’s always nice when fans tell them they should be in the Hall of Fame. He and Barry are thankful that people still remember them and their time in wrestling. While being in the Hall of Fame would be a nice honor, they don’t worry about it too much. If it happens, great and if not, they won’t lose sleep over it. They are just happy to have fans who still support them.
“Well, you know, it’s nice because a lot of people come up and say the same thing. And we appreciate their loyalty, their being fans of ours, and just remembering that we were in the business—remembering things that made an imprint on their lives. So yeah, it would be a nice footnote. But you know, Barry and I have both said a number of times, we have no control over it. If we get in, great. If we don’t get in, we’re not going to lose sleep over it. So, that’s where we stand.”
This comes after Sean Ross Sapp reported that WWE is seriously discussing the possibility of inducting Demolition into the Hall of Fame. Sapp noted that while he is unsure if it will happen this year, the legendary tag team has been brought up in internal discussions. He emphasized that their induction is long overdue, calling them one of the greatest teams in WWE history.
“People wondered what that might mean for the Hall of Fame, and what I can tell you is that it has absolutely been discussed internally. Now, I don’t know if that means they’re going in this year or anything like that, but they have absolutely been brought up internally as potentially joining the WWE Hall of Fame, which is long overdue. One of the great teams of all time in WWE.”
For now, Demolition’s induction into the WWE Hall of Fame is still uncertain. While WWE continues to honor legendary tag teams, fans will have to wait and see if Ax & Smash finally receive the recognition many believe they deserve.
