MJF already has Hollywood experience, having appeared in the highly acclaimed Iron Claw back. The Salt of the Earth is set to star in Happy Gilmore 2 this year, proving he is ready for the big screen. In fact, MJW has now revealed how he landed the role in the first place.
While speaking to Sports Illustrated, MJF explained how he got a role in Happy Gilmore 2. He said his talent and great agents helped him. He is signed with Activist and CAA, two big agencies, and believes he has the best team.
MJF revealed that Adam Sandler saw his audition and thought it was really funny. At first, MJF tried out for a different role, but Sandler liked him so much that he asked him to audition for a bigger part. MJF took the opportunity, landed the role, and is now excited for the movie’s release.
“I got the audition because I am very talented and have very good representatives. You know, I am repped by both Activist and CAA. I’m sure you’ve heard of CAA, and I’m also sure you’ve most likely heard of Activist. I’ve got the best team, easily. They got me the audition.
This is a true story—I’m not fabricating anything, and I’m not being hyperbolic. Adam Sandler himself saw my audition, and he was apparently laughing like a hyena. Then he said, ‘I want this guy’—not for the role I originally auditioned for, but for a different role. He wanted me to audition for that role instead. I did, and I got it. And it’s a big role in the movie, so I’m very, very, very excited for it to come out.”
The former AEW World Champion also confirmed that he will have significant dialogue in the movie. He also mentioned that fans will see a different look from him in the film, as he was required to shave his beard for the role, giving him a more clean-cut, baby-faced appearance.
“Significant dialogue? MJF is eating pretty good in the movie. If you’re an MJF fan and just want to go see some smooth-faced MJF—because I was forced to shave my beard for this role—then you’ll be seeing a lot of baby-faced Maxwell Jacob Friedman.”
MJF will play one of Happy Gilmore’s sons in Happy Gilmore 2, starring alongside Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald. This is a major step in his acting career, with other projects like The Floaters and Stranglehold also in development.
The film will stream on Netflix, blending Sandler’s classic comedy with MJF’s skills. The movie is set to release this year, so we will have to wait and see how the film will turn out and how MJF’s performance will be received by fans and critics alike.
