In 2007, Lex Luger suffered a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. However, he has worked hard over the years and made progress in his recovery. For over a decade, he has been training with DDP to regain mobility and has now revealed how much his daily life has improved after his most recent breakthrough.

Earlier this week, DDP revealed that Lex Luger could finally stand up on his own without any assistance, which was undoubtedly a huge milestone for the professional wrestling legend.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Lex Luger talked about how much his life has gotten better since working with DDP on his recovery. He noted that a few months ago, he couldn’t even sit comfortably in a chair because he was in a wheelchair all the time and now, everything has changed.

Luger noted that simple things like standing up to brush his teeth or taking a shower were hard before. Even getting from his wheelchair to the toilet was a big challenge.

“I’m sitting in a chair right now comfortably. I wouldn’t have been able to do this a few months ago—I was in a wheelchair full-time. Everything changed.

From being able to stand up and brush my teeth—things we take for granted—to taking my chair to the shower in the morning or going to the bathroom, it was challenging. Even just safely getting from the chair to the toilet—everyday functional stuff—was difficult.”

One of the biggest milestones in his recovery is the ability to heat his coffee in the morning. He can now stand up and place it in the microwave, something he couldn’t do before. In the past, he would struggle to reach and often spill coffee everywhere.

“Heating my coffee in the morning—I can stand up and put it in the microwave now. I couldn’t do that before. I used to try to reach and would spill coffee everywhere.”

Lex Luger added that going to the grocery store has also become easier. In the past, store workers would bring him a power cart when they saw him. Now, he can get it himself and shop without waiting for help. His daily life has improved a lot, and he feels amazed by the progress.

“When I go to the grocery store, I used to have to wait, and the grocery store workers would see me and bring me a power cart. Now, I can get the power cart myself. I mean, everything—I can shop again. Every day, if I go through my routine with you, my quality of life and my function have increased dramatically. It’s amazing.”

Looking ahead, Luger’s goal is to regain the ability to walk on his own. While he still uses a device for safety on longer distances, he hopes to walk on his own for shorter trips. Parking his car and walking into a restaurant with family and friends, instead of having to unload his wheelchair, is something he looks forward to. Being able to sit, enjoy a meal and walk back out is a future he is working toward every day.

“Oh yeah, I’m looking to get to a point where I can walk again. I use a device sometimes for safety on longer distances. But for shorter walks and everyday stuff, I’d like to walk on my own.

If I park my car, I want to go into the restaurant with my family and friends instead of getting the wheelchair out of the car. I just want to walk into the restaurant, sit down, have a meal, and walk back out.”

Lex Luger’s dedication and perseverance are truly inspiring. With the help of DDP’s rehabilitation techniques, he has made incredible progress, showing that recovery is possible with the right mindset and support. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see if he will be able to walk in the future, as fans definitely want that for him.
